Thales Communications Ltd, Self Powered Telephones are energised by power stored when the generator is wound during calling. Calling signals are derived from a hand operated magneto generator, the output from which is also stored to provide power to the amplifiers which amplify the speech signals.
This can provide up to 20 minutes of operation. Calls may be extended by further turning of the generator handle.
Incoming calls are signalled audibly with a tone emitted by the microphone in the handset and visually by an integral flashing L.E.D. Where the telephone is mounted in an outer enclosure, a separate sounder provides the calling signal.
For noisy locations the internal drive can operate an external relay unit which in turn can be used to switch a bell, beacon or klaxon.
On non hazardous telephones an internal relay is included which can switch a bell etc. direct. To use this relay, link LK1 on main PCB must be fitted. As this facility reduces the speech time available from a charge it is recommended that the internal drive and external relay unit are used wherever possible.
For hazardous area systems an appropriate audible/visual device can be connected to a telephone via a safety barrier unit.
The 9000 series of Self Powered Telephones consist of eight types listed below. Each telephone type can be fitted in desk, bulkhead or console positions. The back box is reversed for the bulkhead installation. When the telephone is console mounted, the back box is discarded and a rear cover kit fitted.
